What is Processes4Planet?
The Processess4Planet partnership aimed to transform the European processing industry so that it could be fully circular by 2050, while increasing its competitiveness on a global scale. P4Planet is a public-private partnership in which the private stakeholder is A.SPIRE, while the public side is the European Commission as part of Cluster 4 of the Horizon Europe program. This partnership wants to introduce a model of a climate-neutral society operating in a circular economy.However, more than just technological innovation is needed to make such a change.The way society thinks about climate neutrality also requires changes - that is why it is important for the Partnership to promote a systemic socio-economic approach. P4Planet is a strategic partnership for the European industry by influencing its global advantage in aspects such as economic growth and the creation of new, highly specialized jobs.
Partnership goals
P4Planet partnership goals:
- Development and introduction of climate-neutral solutions: P4Planet aims to contribute to the climate neutrality of the entire European economy through technological and non-technological innovations ready for gradual implementation.
- Closing the energy and raw material loop: the process industry will develop and implement a circular business model through technological and non-technological innovation, cross-sector cooperation and involvement of the local ecosystem.This will help achieve a closed loop of raw materials and improve raw material efficiency.P4Planet aims to achieve almost zero waste and almost zero water consumption by 2050.
- Achieving global leadership in climate neutrality and circular solutions by accelerating innovation and unlocking public and private investment: innovation is needed to make climate neutrality and circularity more attractive.The competitive position of the European manufacturing industry will benefit from global leadership in economically attractive solutions, such as strengthening economic integration in the industrial layer of European regions and member states.
Strategic agenda for research and innovation
The European processing industry faces a great challenge in the form of a transformation that will create a circular economy and achieve climate neutrality by 2050.The P4Planet agenda includes a unique approach to cooperation to deliver cross-sectoral innovations that are so important for change. The partnership commits to work on new technologies and to develop existing technologies to achieve a higher level of technological readiness, to achieve the expected reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030 and to achieve full neutrality by 2050.
Circularity Centers – Hubs For Circularity (H4Cs)
P4Planet operates Hubs for Circularity - H4Cs.They represent a key element of the P4Planet Partnership agenda.The centers operate as self-sustaining industrial-economic ecosystems for full-scale industrial-urban symbiosis and a circular economy of raw materials and information.Their creation will support the plans announced in the European Green Deal. First-Of-A-Kind Plants A.SPIRE members have demonstrated the intention to build first-of-a-kind (FOAK) large-scale factories for one or more new technologies.They will integrate their supply chains and deploy these facilities throughout the processing industry.The aim is to raise FOAKs to level 9 of technological readiness, while confirming the market pressure for innovation and the importance of the P4Planet Agenda (SRIA).FOAKs (also called "marbles" in the A.SPIRE community) show the potential impact of the entire P4Planet program.
